Core Leadership

Leadership is like art ... there is no one definition which will apply to everyone in every situation. It varies dependant upon personal style, the context of the moment and the effectiveness of the follower. However that being said there are a number of key traits which we seek to explore in all our interventions:

Authenticity :

It is crucial for a leader to be authentic, but what does this mean? We focus on two key traits:

  • Authentic leaders display a consistency between words and actions in all they do
  • Authentic leaders have a deep understanding and comfort with sel: they are outstanding self leaders.

These are summed up in the phrase coined by Goffee and Jones, "Be Yourself - more - with skill".

Change Management :

Leadership is all about change, management is about efficiency. Leaders are able to instigate change, think strategically and communicate with their teams in such a way as to manage the predictable emotional responses change will evoke in others.

Relationship Management :

The most effective leaders spend time with people and as such they tend to spend that time with them, communicating in a highly effective manner. They create localised interpretations of the vision, are able to hold critical conversations, have a genuine interest in others development and tend to foster a strong 'coaching' ethos within the team. These traits tend to maximise 'followership' in others. Leaders are nothing without followers!

At Votive Leadership our tailored solutions focus on 'leading self' before moving to the key skill-sets required to lead team members, lead other managers and eventually to lead organisations.
